Beschrijving

Rond 1840 ging David Maydole (27 januari 1807 – 14 oktober 1882) wonen in  Norwich, New York (USA). Hij was daar de dorpssmid en was goed in het maken van gereedschappen en het maken van de veren van wagens. Hij was ook erg goed in het maken van hamers. In 1873 had hij 115 personen in dienst. Bij zijn overlijden in 1892 was zijn bedrijf de grootste fabriek van hamers in de USA.
Hij heeft rond 1862 ook schaatsen ontworpen en gemaakt. Hij kreeg daarvoor patenten in 1862 op 8 april, 16 september en 9 december.
Zijn bedrijf bleef in familiehanden en kreeg in 1932 de naam Maydole Tool Company tot het in 1939 gekocht werd door Mayhew.
