Beschrijving Original card covers, with compiler's name in manuscript to upper cover (toned). Note: Wimbledon Skating club was founded in 1871 by Dr. Edward Huntingford. It was one of only a handful of skating clubs that pre-dated the foundation of Britain's National Skating Association in 1879. The records show that between 1882-85 the ice was not solid enough to skate on and between these years skating only occurred on thirteen days. Nevertheless, Wimbledon Skating Club produced some of the finest 'English Style' skaters and was the principal rival to the London Skating Club.
