Bev Thurber skating in 2021 on an Archetype replica (1225-1400)

 

Bev (B.A.) Thurber is an independent scholar based in Evanston, Illinois. Her previous publications include new editions of historic skating books and journal articles on subjects as diverse as historical linguistics, Scandinavian literature, and fluid dynamics. She wrote in addition the book Skates Made of Bone, a History (2020).

She also paid attention to the first wooden skate, the Archetype (1225-1400), and made a replica. She then tested it and made a video of it.
