Beschrijving: Grote gedraaide kluwen van Olympische kleuren, die uitmonden in aaneengesloten ringen in de Olympische kleuren.Er staat een kunstschaatser, skispringer, snowboarder en een langlaufer bovenop en in de kluwen een skiër (afdaling of slalom). Op de rode ring staat een blauwe langebaanschaatser.

De horizontale Olympische ringen symboliseren de vijf deelnemende continenten, Afrika, Azië, Amerika, Australië en Europa, met zes levensgrote figuren die skiën en schaatsen op een grote draaikolk van Olympische kleuren, inclusief een afbeelding van de Koreaanse Olympische kampioen schaatser, Kim Yuna.2
De 'Pyeongchang Culture Olympic Public Art Project Artist Competition' werd georganiseerd door het Ministerie van Cultuur en Kunsten, van 10 februari tot 9 maart 2017, Om te komen tot beelden voor PyeongChang en Gangneung. Het ontwerp 'Connected One' werd verkozen voor PyeongChang ('Leaning in the Wind' in Gangneung) om te worden uitgevoerd.1
Ralf Sander (geboren in Berlijn) hoogleraar Beeldende kunst aan de Belfast School of Art, ontwierp het beeldhouwwerk samen met voormalig collega; Moon Joo, Professor Beeldende Kunst aan de Seoul National University.1
Ralf Sander op de site van de Ulster University2:
“In February of last year (2017) I was contacted by former colleagues and friends from Seoul University and asked to take part in the development of different ideas and concepts for an art exhibition at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
We conducted a public enquiry into what the community and stakeholders wanted to see, with most people identifying the Olympic rings, energy, colour and representations of major winter-sport disciplines as key elements, all of which are exemplified in the finished product.
Professor Moon Joo and I may have put the project into motion, but the sculpture is a democratic design that intends to engage people of the host country and the rest of the world based on the Olympic values.”
'Connected One' is onthuld bij de opening van de Olympische Spelen. En maakte deel uit van de Cultural Olympiad tijdens de Olympische en Paralympische Winterspelen in PyeongChang (9 - 18 March 2018).
'Connected One' past als naam goed bij deze spelen die als thema had: 'Passion - Connected'
