Beschrijving
Zoon van de smid en schaatsenmaker Cornelis Schakel uit Benschop. Dirk Leendert vestigt zich in januari 1901 in Haastrecht als smid. Vandaar gaat hij naar Stolwijkersluis.
In de Schoonhovensche Courant van 23 januari 1917 staat de volgende advertentie: ‘Schaatsen. Verkrijgbaar de alom beroemde Schakel’s Schaatsen. Eigen fabrikaat. Tevens gelegenheid voor electrisch slijpen. D.L. Schakel Stolwijkersluis.’
In oktober 1959 vertekt hij van Stolwijk naar Gouda.
